GREAT VIDEOTo drive hits to a news web site, I developed video content that leveraged editorial talent and appealed to local interests. My challenge was to re-imagine print reporting through video – with no additional budget, and always on deadline. I generated a large body of work in just a few years; here are some examples. Using a vacant office, available lighting, and the free trailers furnished by movie distributors, I recorded, edited and produced weekly online videos. The result was informative, entertaining content on a shoestring. |

Case Study: Joke of the DayOne novel concept was to let the children of the community star in silly “Joke of the Day” videos. Students from across the community were invited to deliver jokes, with the best ones posted online daily. Teachers, students, friends and family members visited to see which student’s joke would be featured. |

Case Study: Election Night 2008Chicago’s Grant Park was a swarm of humanity on November 4, 2008. All manner of reporters from all manner of media were there to record Barack Obama’s victory speech. I took a different angle than most. My focus was on the individuals who had gathered to celebrate that evening – from elderly campaign volunteers to first-time voters. |
